Travel by bike

to Chester Business Park

Cycling to work can dramatically improve your general fitness and is proven to help reduce stress and anxiety. With on site secure cycle storage, showers and changing facilities some of the normal barriers to commuting by bike have been removed (for those living close enough!) and you can even get a new bike at significantly reduced prices through the Cycle to Work Scheme.

Dr. Bike – Free Cycle Health Checks

At Chester Business Park we run a series of Dr Bike sessions as part of the MyCommute programme. These allow you to bring your bike along for a FREE onsite basic bike service helping to make sure that your bike is in tip-top condition for a safer, smoother commute.

Dr Bike sessions are ideal whether you are an experienced regular cyclist, or if you are someone looking to get back into cycling who maybe has an old bike hidden away in the garage that needs a once over.

For further information on dates of the next Dr Bike session watch out for details in the news section to the right, on posters around site, or email chester@www.my-commute.com specifying that you would like to be added to the Bicycle User Group (BUG) email list.

  • Cycle storage, showers & changing facilities

At Chester Business Park cyclists are well catered for with several secure cycle storage areas located around site, as well as shower, changing and locker facilities within most buildings.

We have produced a map to show where cycle lockers are located.
Map of Facilities If you are still unsure please contact us.

    Locker Applications
Whilst lockers are in limited supply, if you are a current cyclist or would like to start cycling to work and would like to request a locker please email chester@www.my-commute.com
  • Plan a journey by bike

If you are new to cycling in the area, or haven’t been out on your bike for a while, it’s worth checking out the best route to work – with lots of off street routes and designated cycle lanes you may just find it’s a lot simpler than you thought!

To plan a journey by bike in Chester you can either use the maps in the tab below, or alternatively use an online journey planner such as Cycle Streets

The maps provide much greater detail on local routes, such as which are better suited to different levels of cyclist, whilst the CycleStreets tool provides a detailed journey plan and displays useful information such as how many calories you will burn, how long the journey will take, and even how hilly the route is.
  • Cycle to Work scheme: save up to 42% on the cost of a new bike

Employees have the opportunity to purchase a bike (and associated safety equipment) as part of the ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme, these type of arrangements allow you to pay for your new bike through a salary sacrifice arrangement, enabling you to save up to 42% compared to buying a bike on your own.

For more information on eligibility, bike options and timescales to participate email chester@www.my-commute.com
  • Cycle maps

The Cycle Chester Map gives an overview of all of the cycling routes in the city centre and surrounding areas and is useful to help see how different routes work across the area - download here

To complement this area wide map there are also a series of 10 pocket sized guides which show specific cycle routes in and around the city centre. These are a legacy of Chester being designated as a Cycling Demonstration City in 2009 (see Chester Cycling maps).

The route which leads towards Chester Business Park is the Purple Route which can be downloaded here
  • Bicycle User Group (BUG)

As there are already a number of people who cycle to work at Chester Business Park regularly, a Bicycle User Group (BUG) has been established which has the aim of informing and supporting cycle related measures across the site.

To date the majority of communication with the BUG has been via an email group, however it is hoped that as more people start to cycle to work more regular meetings will be held.

If you would like to either sign up to the BUG email list, or would like to suggest a meeting of the group, please contact us.
  • Cycle events in Chester

There are numerous active cycle groups in Chester and the surrounding areas who run regular cycling events of different kinds. Events range from ladies only cycling groups, to Sunday leisure rides, through to organised road races.
